How to Pray - Hannah's Prayer
Manoj Kumar K

Hannah was childless for many years. She has been going to the temple year after year along with her husband. She prayed many times during those years. But only one prayer is recorded by the Holy Spirit. What is so special in that prayer?

Background story:
Eli is the priest in that temple at Shiloh. He was obedient to the Lord. But now he has grown old and couldn't perform his duties effectively. So he appointed his two sons as priests to share his duties. But the Bible says they were scoundrels and didn't follow the ways of the Lord. They are taking the offerings of the people to satisfy their desires.Eli didn't try to confront them. This is causing inconvenience to the people who are coming to the temple to worship the Lord in Holiness.

Prayer:
Hannah has prayed every year in the temple. She has observed that the situation in the temple is worsening with each passing year- Eli cannot walk much and his sons are growing in their evil ways. She was praying for a son in her life. She has realised that God is waiting for a son to be a priest in His temple. So she immediately offers her son to God. This prayer gave a lovely son to her and a faithful priest to God. She is now a mother and God's name has been glorified through Samuel. Oh! what a joy it would have been in her heart-that she could fulfill God's plan.

Conclusion:
We pray everyday for our needs to lead a good life. God also needs people to proclaim His name.If we match our needs with God's plan the results will be amazing.

In prayer we want God to listen to our needs. In the same way God wants us to listen to His plan. Prayer is not like giving a grocery list to God for filling out basket. Our prayers should be a two way communication.

Amen!
